Introduction to Synthesis Nutrition
Hello, I am Dr Nina Fuller-Shavel or Dr Nina as I am known to my clients. I have a Masters in Natural Sciences and a Bachelor's Degree in Medicine and Surgery from Cambridge University and I am a Functional Medicine Practitioner. I am a member of the Institute of Functional Medicine (IFM), the British Association for Nutrition and Lifestyle Medicine (BANT) and British Society of Lifestyle Medicine (BSLM). I am also fully registered with the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC).
I am hugely passionate about the role of nutrition and Functional Medicine in regaining and promoting our health and wellbeing and I would like to use my methods to help you achieve your health goals. In my clinic I choose to practice an evidence-informed yet client-focused approach. It is my job to identify and thoroughly assess the genetic, biochemical and lifestyle factors that may contribute to your symptoms and health issues, use functional medicine testing as appropriate and then to synthesise all the information I have gathered to co-create an individualised and comprehensive health plan with you to address your unique needs by tackling the root causes instead of just managing symptoms.
My clinic also utilises an evidence-based integrative medicine approach based on individual client's health issues. Integrative medicine places a supportive and empowering relationship between the practitioner and client at its centre, focuses on the whole person and makes use of all appropriate therapeutic and lifestyle approaches and disciplines (with appropriate referrals) to achieve optimal health and wellbeing.
What is Functional Medicine?
Functional Medicine is a unique personalised systems biology-based model that enables practitioners to work with clients to address the underlying causes of health issues in order to promote optimal health and wellbeing. It is the medicine of ‘why’, focusing on the roots of disease rather than symptom management. The Functional Medicine model starts with a thorough exploration of each client’s genetic, biochemical and lifestyle factors and utilises this information intelligently to direct personalised treatment plans. Functional Medicine combines science, evidence and clinical insight and brings the art and the whole-person approach back into the therapeutic relationship between practitioner and client.
